Step into an immersive exploration of journeys, memory, and cultural narratives in Stairwells (lead to concrete places). Painter and multidisciplinary artist Sajil draws on experiences living across six countries, blending miniature painting with sculpture, film, and light to create spaces where familiar architecture meets imagined worlds.

This exhibition examines the spaces “in between”—where stories of migration, cultural memory, and generational traditions intersect. Through fragmented, light-filled compositions, Sajil invites viewers to navigate shadows and perspectives, uncovering narratives hidden in gaps, and engaging directly with the artwork in a multi-sensory experience.

Presented in Greenwich and Kidbrooke, this is Sajil’s first public showing of this collection—a journey through memory, imagination, and the bridges between them.

About the Artist: Sajil

Born in Karachi and having lived across six countries, Sajil is a painter and installation artist whose work explores the intersections of migration, memory, and cultural storytelling. Combining painting with sculpture and film, Sajil treats her work as a form of documentary evidence—a reflection on how collective worlds are shaped by the spaces and narratives we inherit and imagine.

Through her practice, familiar spaces are transformed, gaps in memory become stories, and viewers are invited to participate in a constantly shifting, multi-dimensional world.
