Phil Bower Exhibition
Monday 23rd October – Monday 6th November
ABOUT THE ARTIST
After completing an Art & Photography Foundation Course in London, Phil began working in his local Hospital for much needed travel money, to realise his dream to travel around Asia on 2 wheels & photograph to earn his living, with some success. Phil spent 7 years there.
Phil also did many portraits in his favourite style at the time, Pointillism. He later began trying out more Pop Art style paintings, & began incorporating his love of the mid-century era of music, style, Scooters & Architecture into his art.
After returning to the UK Phil split his time between his NHS job (becoming a fully trained professional) & painting & photography (& his Wife & Kids!)
Phil’s recent work, mainly in acrylic, incorporates his love of mid century style from the golden age of travel, through to pool lounging in motels, & the freedom of diving. These works take inspiration from the likes of Slim Aarons & Phil’s colours & style nod to Hockney.
Phil’s latest work of Urban Portraits mixes this style with added pen & ink pointillist portraits.
Phil’s work has featured on magazine covers, TV Advert, DVD cover, Club Walls & sold worldwide.
ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
This Exhibition incorporates Phil’s more recent work of paintings from over the last 5 years or so.
From Phil’s love of the mid-century era, most paintings show the style of travel & leisure at the time.
From hanging out at the lido & motel pool, to diving & surfing, to travelling with style.
More recent work combines Phil’s love of brutalist post war architecture, still found around London, with urban portraits in a pen & ink pointillism style.
