7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
A concert of some of the rare chamber works by Georg Frideric Handel (1685 – 1750) that feature the viola da gamba and the harpsichord. The viola da gamba was popular in Handel’s lifetime though not much solo music for it survives from early Georgian England. Handel was known as a virtuoso keyboard player and wrote some very beautiful and imaginative pieces for the harpsichord.
Ibrahim Aziz (ibiaziz.com) is a leading performer of the viola da gamba and recently issued a solo CD, Risonanze, on the FHR label. Masumi Yamamoto (masumiyamamoto.com) is in great demand as a solo recitalist and continuo player and recently gave recitals in the London Handel Festival and Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
