The Triumph of Nature: Studies in What Remains and Silence by Katarzyna Wolinska

My skull paintings are born from a personal story. My first skull was painted against a black background and given as a gift to my husband, who at the time was struggling with a fear of death. That painting was not merely a figure. It became a bridge to conversations about what is unseen and inevitable. Through it, we began to speak openly about impermanence and about what life might look like when we are no longer here.

Today, the skull no longer represents a threat to me. It has become a symbol of a journey that connects all living things. It is a reminder that life and death are two inseparable parts of the same experience. The skull does not end the conversation. It begins it.

Triumf natury: studia nad tym, co pozostaje i  nad ciszą. Katarzyna Wolinska

Moje obrazy z czaszkami rodzą się z osobistej historii. Moja pierwsza czaszka powstała na czarnym tle i była prezentem dla mojego męża, który zmagał się z lękiem przed śmiercią. Ten obraz nie był jedynie figurą. Stał się mostem do rozmowy o tym, co niewidoczne i nieuchronne. Dzięki niemu zaczęliśmy mówić otwarcie o przemijaniu oraz o tym, jak wygląda życie, kiedy nas już tu nie będzie.

Dziś czaszka nie jest dla mnie groźbą. Jest symbolem podróży, która łączy wszystko, co żywe. Przypomina, że życie i śmierć są dwiema nierozerwalnymi częściami tego samego doświadczenia. Czaszka nie kończy rozmowy. Ona ją zaczyna.
