Sajil Kaleem x SHOR

Overview

Join us for a book-binding session with Sajil Kaleem, to accompany her ongoing exhibition Stairwells, at artfix Greenwich. Using recycled materials and scraps, we will create our own little books, exploring the idea of books and diaries as keepers of memories and stories. This is a chance to learn book binding, but beyond that to engage in conversation about memory and migration and consider the stories we carry with us across borders and generations. 

What to Expect

✨ Hands-on creativity — Learn simple book-binding techniques using recycled and found materials.
🪡 Make it personal — Bring your own scraps (photos, paper, fabric, notes) to weave into your handmade book.
🌍 Community & connection — Meet others in a relaxed, welcoming environment at artfix Greenwich.
🧵 All materials provided — No experience needed, just curiosity and an open mind.

Sajil’s artist statement

Sajil is a painter exploring multimedia installation. Inspired by stories of migration and familial relationships, she refers to the Mughal tradition of painting to create artwork rooted in stories and documentation. Sajil’s work alludes to the imagined world that is created by being at a distance from your home. Her work invites you to immerse yourself into the stories that attempt to fill those gaps in social, political and cultural memory that define the concept of home.
