Rachel Morris graduated from Middlesex University in 2011 with a degree in Fine Art. Having been a part of a number of successful exhibitions including her first solo show in 2012, she has begun a new series of works for a new exhibition focusing on the mind.
Her work has been consistently influenced by the human form and anatomy and in previous artworks she approached the subject in formal and investigative studies, segmenting and dissecting the body through paintings and drawings, as a surgeon would create sterile fields.
By continuing to pursue the form, movement, colour and truthfulness of the body, her recent works have however begun to develop and focus on the subconscious; exploring the inner self by studying themes of anxiety, peace, fearfulness, power, protection.
Irrational > rational
Sink > swim
Fight > flight
Her new work explores the psychological controversies directly encountered, experimenting with catharsis and delving into the subject of vitality.
Organic > mechanical
Predominantly using oil paint, her new works also explore other mediums, scale and shape in an attempt to enhance the viewers emotions.
